Frequently asked questions
Why is my photo HEIC?
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Format) by default. The format is more compact than JPG at equal quality, but not all apps and devices support it. JPG works everywhere.
Is quality lost during conversion?
There is a small quality difference because JPG is a lossy format. In practice the difference is barely visible at normal viewing distance. The tool converts at high quality.
Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?
Yes, drag multiple HEIC files to the tool at the same time. They are each converted separately and you can download them as a ZIP.
Why can Windows not open HEIC?
Windows does not support HEIC by default. You can install the HEIC Image Extension from the Microsoft Store, or simply use this tool to convert to JPG.
Can I also convert HEIC to PNG?
Not directly via this HEIC tool. First convert to JPG, then use the format conversion tool to switch to PNG.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your own browser. Your image never leaves your device and is not stored anywhere.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free, without watermark or account. The site is paid for by ads.

Why in the browser?
PixRust runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API and WebAssembly. Your image is never sent to a server — all processing happens locally on your device. This means your photos remain private by design, whether they are personal snapshots or confidential documents. There is no account required, no file size limit, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
